According to HousingWire, HomeServices of America, which is owned by Berkshire Hathaway Energy, has expanded its integrated real estate platform by bringing mortgage servicing in-house through its subsidiary Prosperity Home Mortgage. This addition builds on what the company calls its OnePoint strategy, which aims to keep customers connected to the same professionals and services from their initial home search all the way through their mortgage payments and beyond.
Prosperity Home Mortgage originates nearly nine billion dollars in mortgages every year across thousands of transactions. Historically, like most lenders, Prosperity would sell the rights to service these mortgages to other companies after the loan closed. Now the company is keeping that servicing function internal, which means borrowers will continue working with the same organization for payment processing, account questions, escrow matters, and when they're ready to refinance or buy again.
The company sees real value in reducing what happens in the industry all the time: the handoff. When a borrower closes on a home, they typically start making payments to a completely different company than the one that originated their loan. That disruption can damage relationships and create confusion. By keeping servicing in-house, HomeServices maintains that continuity and gives its real estate agents the ability to stay connected with past clients and spot opportunities for future business.
HomeServices already operated with an integrated approach, offering home search, brokerage services, mortgage origination, title and escrow, and insurance all under one roof. The addition of servicing represents what the company describes as the next logical step in that evolution. Rather than building everything around technology first, HomeServices emphasizes that its research shows most recent buyers still prefer working with actual people who use integrated systems to make things smoother and more efficient.
What I am seeing locally here in the Bay Area and East Bay is that consumers absolutely want simplicity in the home buying process, and they value having one trusted point of contact. When borrowers in Fremont and surrounding communities experience constant transfers and dealing with multiple companies, it creates frustration right when they should be enjoying their new home. An integrated approach like this, where your agent, lender, and servicer all know your situation and stay connected, addresses a real pain point I hear about constantly from both buyers and sellers.
