According to HousingWire, the national brokerage SERHANT. has launched into the Chicago market with SERHANT. Illinois, bringing together more than 40 agents who collectively bring over $600 million in trailing sales volume to the new operation. The company, which was founded in 2020 and began expanding nationally in 2023, now operates across 20 different markets with nearly 2,500 agents total. The Chicago entry represents another step in an ambitious expansion strategy that also includes planned entries into Massachusetts, Texas, California, and Colorado.
The firm is banking on its technology platform called S.MPLE as a major selling point to attract agents and compete in the Chicago market. Founder Ryan Serhant emphasized that Chicago brokers and agents have been operating under traditional models for decades, and his firm's platform offers AI-powered tools for lead generation, marketing, and managing transactions that are designed for how modern buyers and sellers actually operate. The company recently rolled out an upgraded version of this platform called S.MPLE 2.0.
Leading the Chicago operation is Dina Lissner, who has been named the managing director of SERHANT. Illinois. Lissner comes to the role with significant local credentials, having previously spent five years as the designated managing broker of Baird & Warner's Highland Park office and earning the designation of 2024 Managing Broker of the Year from the North Shore-Barrington Association of Realtors. She spent four years earlier in her career as an agent before moving into leadership roles.
The founding team includes several high-producing agents who were recruited from established Chicago-area firms. Melissa Siegal joined from @properties Christie's International Real Estate after nearly two decades in the business and brings more than $650 million in career sales, while Jennifer Mills-Klatt arrived from Jameson Sotheby's with her Home Discovery Team, which has generated more than $1 billion in career sales. Additional founding agents with significant track records also joined from these and other local brokerages, with more agents expected to sign on in the coming weeks and months.
What I am seeing locally in the Bay Area and throughout the East Bay is that national brokerages with strong technology platforms are increasingly attractive to established agents who want to maintain their local expertise while gaining access to better tools and broader reach. This Chicago expansion by SERHANT. signals that tech-driven platforms are becoming a major competitive factor in how brokerages are able to recruit top talent, regardless of geography. For our Fremont and East Bay clients and agents, moves like this remind us that the real estate industry continues to evolve rapidly, and staying current with technology and operational innovation is no longer optional for staying competitive.
