I wanted to walk you through something that just hit the wire that could be pretty meaningful for how home equity lending works going forward. According to HousingWire, FirstClose and Cotality have joined forces to combine their services in a way that speeds up the whole home equity process. FirstClose brings the technology side with their point-of-sale and order management tools, while Cotality contributes all the property data you'd need like valuations, flood information, tax records, title information and property condition assessments.
What's interesting here is that the two companies are saying lenders can now close home equity loans in as little as seven days. They've built this so that everything flows through one unified system instead of having lenders bounce between different vendors and manually enter the same information over and over. The platform talks to the major loan origination systems out there, which means less duplicate data entry and fewer disconnected moving parts slowing things down.
Beyond just speed, there's something valuable happening on the business development side too. By combining FirstClose's lending workflow technology with Cotality's property data and analytics, lenders now have better tools to identify which of their existing customers might be good candidates for home equity products. This lets banks and credit unions reach out more strategically and hold onto customers longer instead of watching them shop around for a better rate elsewhere.
What I am seeing locally here in the Bay Area and throughout the East Bay is that lenders are really hungry for ways to compete more efficiently, especially in a market like ours where home values have created significant equity for a lot of homeowners. A faster, cleaner process that cuts down on paperwork and back-and-forth delays could actually make a real difference in whether people choose to tap that equity or just stay put.
