According to HousingWire, the Mortgage Bankers Association and FirstHome IQ have partnered to create MBA Homebase, a new professional development platform aimed at helping mortgage loan officers grow their careers and businesses. The platform was announced at the MBA's annual conference and is open to loan officers working across any lender or origination channel, whether or not their employer is an MBA member.
The platform is built around four main areas of support for loan officers. The knowledge component gives access to continuing education courses that satisfy NMLS requirements through several approved providers. The purpose component includes regular coaching sessions and ongoing guidance to help loan officers develop their skills and hit professional goals. The business component offers a Trust Certification credential designed to help loan officers demonstrate their commitment to responsible lending and build confidence with their clients. Finally, the influence component connects loan officers with opportunities to participate in industry advocacy efforts and gain market insights they can share with their borrowers and referral partners.
The platform addresses what industry leaders see as a gap in professional development support for loan officers. Owen Lee, who heads Success Mortgage Partners and is the incoming MBA chairman, emphasized that investing in loan officers ultimately leads to better outcomes for the consumers and communities they serve.
This partnership between the MBA and FirstHome IQ builds on work the organizations have already been doing together around homebuyer education and connecting loan officers with policy discussions. FirstHome IQ operates a network of over 160 Ambassadors who educate consumers locally, and the organizations recently worked to increase loan officer participation in housing policy advocacy, including a Capitol Hill visit program at the MBA's advocacy conference.
What I am seeing locally here in the Bay Area and East Bay is that loan officers are hungry for better professional development and networking opportunities. A platform like this, especially one that's open across all lenders and channels, can help our mortgage professionals stay sharp, build stronger client relationships, and participate more meaningfully in the industry conversations that shape our market. That kind of support ripples down to help all of us serve our buyers and sellers better.
