Curated News BriefBased on original reporting by HousingWire (September 8, 2026). The summary below is the Journal’s; the local analysis is original commentary by Omar Murillo.

According to HousingWire, Huntington Bancshares has promoted Brant Standridge to president of the company and its subsidiary, The Huntington National Bank. This move comes after the board of directors and CEO Steve Steinour completed a multiyear succession planning process with outside advisers to identify the right person for the role.

In his new position, Standridge will take charge of all the bank's revenue-generating operations and will report directly to Steinour. The CEO plans to remain in his role as chairman and CEO for several more years while focusing on overall company strategy and execution. Steinour expressed confidence in Standridge, highlighting his banking background, operational discipline, and commitment to serving both customers and employees.

Standridge joined Huntington in April 2022 as president of consumer and business banking, where he managed a broad range of operations including branch banking, business services, wealth management, and various lending divisions. One of his key accomplishments was creating and leading Huntington's growth council, a group that brings together executives from different revenue-producing units to work on long-term expansion opportunities.

Before his recent promotion, Standridge played a central role in integrating two major acquisitions for Huntington. He led the integration efforts related to Veritex Community Bank and Cadence Bank, including overseeing Cadence's conversion, which was the largest integration in Huntington's history. These acquisitions significantly expanded the bank's footprint in Texas and the southern United States.

Prior to joining Huntington, Standridge worked at Truist, where he held the position of chief retail community banking officer starting in December 2019. Before that role, he spent years in various positions at Truist and its predecessor companies, managing retail banking, auto financing, commercial mortgage banking, and other divisions. He also served as regional president in Baltimore, Atlanta, and Dallas during his career.

What I am seeing locally in the Bay Area and throughout the East Bay is that the banking sector continues to consolidate and evolve, with experienced operational leaders like Standridge becoming increasingly valuable. While this particular move involves a national bank headquartered in Ohio, these kinds of executive shuffles at major financial institutions often signal how money flows and lending priorities may shift across regions. For my clients in Fremont and the surrounding area, it's worth noting that regional integration and leadership transitions at major banks can eventually influence local lending practices and the availability of financing for both commercial and residential real estate projects.
